Poetry Palooza Hosts Fifth Annual Event
Come for the free pie, stay for the poetry!

While America celebrates its 250^th Anniversary of Independence this year, Poetry Palooza invites you to attend a calendar of FREE annual events throughout 2026 and beyond. Next up in early August is Poetry & Pie. What could be more American?

Bring your appetite for Poetry & Pie on Thursday, August 6, to Windsor Heights Community Events Center, located at 6900 School Street in Windsor Heights.

All are welcome. Delicious, mouth-watering pies in a variety of favorite flavors will be served at 5:00 p.m., followed by live and lively poetry performances concluding no later than 6:30 p.m. (Doors open at 4:45 p.m.).

Featured performers include media personality and published poet Mike Pace plus Des Moines’ own Patsy Shors. Oakridge Neighborhood Vice President of Youth and Education Programs, poet, cultural critic and community advocate Lenny Bell will serve as this year’s host and emcee. They will be joined by emerging voices, creating a lineup that bridges experience, draft and new perspectives.

Something for everyone’s taste in poetry and pie.
