Event Description:
Health care lies in the path of a perfect storm, as demographics clash with dwindling resources. Individuals are experiencing delayed appointments and procedures, but business owners face the added challenges of a shrinking workforce and the rising costs of benefits. We know that those who practice self-advocacy are healthier and live longer, so why not couple health literacy with the resources of a workplace “community” to create a win-win partnership? Jo Kline reveals the facts and history driving this inevitable crisis and then shares crucial strategies that empower employers and employees to achieve best health outcomes together—in spite of the perfect storm.
Attorney Jo Kline is a thought leader on health care access and the founder of the Iowa Institute for Health Literacy. Her journey of researching, speaking and writing about patient advocacy began over 20 years ago when she served as the volunteer chair of Iowa’s largest hospice. Jo has now incorporated her unique expertise on demographics, the workforce and health literacy into an innovative initiative, Bridges to Health Care Access.
