Karen Acres Elementary
Tucked away in the small neighborhood of Karen Acres, lies the “little school that could.” Just a few
years ago, Karen Acres Elementary was struggling academically and was listed as a school in need of
assistance. Through this time, the principal, teachers, students, parents, and community volunteers
have worked hard to change this momentum. This year, Karen Acres Elementary (lovingly known as
KA), received a great distinction being named a high performing school according to the Iowa School
Report Card by the Iowa Department of Education. It is the only school in the Urbandale School District
with this ranking and is among the top 14% of all schools statewide.

While the school has made huge strides academically, we are facing some financial needs and are asking
for your support and help. The PTO will be sponsoring a schoolwide 5K fun run for the students and
their families to raise money for both annual and one-time needs. We must raise $10,000 to pay for
this year’s field trips, needed classroom supplies, and school activities. If additional monies are raised,
the playground and exterior is in need of soccer goals (the kids use “invisible” goal posts) and capital
improvement projects after our remodel and renovation. How can you help? Please choose to be a
