The Central Iowa Business Academy Leadership Track is presented by Trixies Salon and Spa. Thank you for your sponsorship!

This month's Central Iowa Business Academy is a Leadership session. The Leadership track of this series focuses on topics relevant to those who work in a team-oriented setting, whether that be entry level or intermediate. The topics presented will help individuals build confidence to become better employees, team members, and business people.

Difficult Conversations and the Art of Speaking Up

Tough work and personal conversations can send folks running for cover, or out the door.  According to research, 37% of people consider quitting rather than having the talk. An equal percentage avoid the conversation by dancing around the topic, and 6% call in sick to delay it! Let's be honest, the idea of having a difficult conversation with a  colleague or supervisor (or others in your life) is terrifying, however there are positive steps you can take to spot a this type of conversation, manage it well and strengthen and engage your team and relationships. This interactive session will focus on:

  • Recognizing a difficult conversation
  • Common causes and reactions, and
  • Proactive and positive strategies for having the conversation
