Pat Finnerty named Urbandale 2018 Citizen of the Year
URBANDALE, IA – The Urbandale Chamber of Commerce annually reviews nominations to select a resident to receive the prestigious Citizen of the Year award. The award is given to the selected citizen during the organization’s annual Sample Urbandale, A Celebration of Business event. This year’s award was given to Pat Finnerty, a dedicated and influential volunteer for the Urbandale community.
Pat is like the Energizer Bunny when it comes to community involvement – he never runs out of energy or new ways to give back. His civic involvement began in the 1980s and continues today. His volunteer career is rich and varies from coaching girls’ softball in the late 80s to the early 90s to being involved with the Urbandale’s Centennial Committee in 2017. In 2016, Pat started his service with the Historical Society Board and continues that service today. Pat is also currently working with the Library Director, Community Manager, and the Urbandale Community Action Network to capture some of the oral history of the community.
Pat has served on the School District Board of Directors including President for six years, assisting the District by serving on the Operations and Finance, Instruction and Strategic Planning, and Science/Health review committees. He has served the City through his membership on the Capital Improvement Advisory and Technology Planning committees, the Beautification Committee, and the Senior Center Advisory Board. Pat was also the forerunner of the Urbandale Community Action Network while on the Urbandale Community Action Council. He also served as the co-coordinator for the Vision Urbandale Planning Steering Committee. Pat has participated in the Citizen’s Police Academy and its Alumni Board. He is the current President of the Lion’s Club and is active in St. Pius Catholic Church where he serves on the Parish Council.
Pat will receive his award on November 15, 2018 at Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites during the 2018 Sample Urbandale, A Celebration of Business event. Tickets are $35 each and can be purchased through the Urbandale Chamber at 515-331-6855 or www.uniquelyurbandale.com. The event includes live music from Jason Walsmith, food sampling from area restaurants, wine sampling from WineStyles, silent auction and award ceremonies for Citizen of the Year, Business of the Year, Connector of the Year and “Best of Class” awards.
The Urbandale Chamber of Commerce is a membership-based business organization that serves its membership and business community by promoting economic development, business growth and a high quality of life. Currently the Chamber serves 766 business members.
