Candeo announces new training and development for Mental Health Clinicians with receipt of Prairie Meadows Grant
Funding provided for developing evidence based mental health clinical services

Johnston, Iowa— 07/17/2018 Candeo is happy to announce that Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino has provided $5,000 through the Community Betterment grant fund to support training and development of mental health clinicians.

Candeo, a local not-for-profit, supports people to achieve their personal goals and to build a community empowered by the contribution of all.  “One barrier to building this community is when toxic stress, chronic health conditions, or mental illness begins to impact many areas of life.  In Central Iowa there is a shortage of many types of professional supports to address these concerns” says Marcy Davis, CEO with Candeo. “In Central Iowa there is a shortage of Mental Health Clinicians to meet our community’s need for quality outpatient mental health supports.”  Mental Health Clinicians include Social Workers (LISW, LMSW), Mental Health Counselors (LMHC), and Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFT) to provide outpatient mental health supports.

With this Community Betterment Grant from Prairie Meadows, Candeo will be able to support its growing group of mental health clinicians in developing effective practices that are backed by the most current research. Specifically, Candeo looks to develop in two areas: development of Registered Play Therapists (RPT, RPT-S) and developing a quality mental health services for individuals with Intellectual Disabilities, Developmental Disabilities and a Mental Health diagnosis.  Developing this expertise will help Candeo support people to become full participants in our common life in Central Iowa.

Candeo recognizes Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino and our community for its support.
